Hi Peter,

As we talk about localization of dynamic content it is necessary to translate (a) HTML elements and attributes and (b) Tab Settings as well in less database calls, so I would propose the following adjustment to your table design:

LanguageLocale, ModuleId, ResourceKey, ResourceAttribute [or ResourceProperty, or ResourceName, or Setting, etc.], ResourceValue

Examples:
(a) Tab may has associated records having ResourceKey value "[TabId]_Settings" and ResourceAttribute value "[Setting]" to store localized values
(b) HTML element may has associated records having ResourceKey value "[ResourceKey]" and ResourceAttribute value "[ELEMENT / HTML attribute name]" to store it's localized value and localized values of it's attributes

Regards, Germans

Peter,

or even following adjustment:

LanguageLocale, EntityId, EntityType, ResourceKey, ResourceAttribute [or ResourceProperty, or ResourceName, or Setting, etc.], ResourceValue

EntityType may has values like "module", "tab"

Hi

I have developed a solution for dynamic localization for the DNN 4.0 version witch I am doing the last test on at the moment, and will be done the beginning of next week. A test of it can be viewed on one of my customer’s websitet http://www.litobyg.com. Is there a way to send this solution to the Core team so they can look at it and maybe implement it in further releases of cause free of change they have given us so much then we can give something back.

And if someone will like to get this core update my e-mail is ah@hpconsulting.dk and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Best regards

Andreas

Andreas,
All ideas are welcome. Keep in mind the criteria we have for this (you can find those in the threads you find in this forum). We'd love to see what you did to make your DNN site multilingual.
When you have written out what you did, please start a thread of your own here and we can discuss your approach.

I have the added problem of needing to localize to a language that is not included in the ASP.NET language set (Greenlandic, thinks it's kal-kl in ISO)
We have made changes to 2 third party modules and the core to make it happen on http://demo.inuit.gl
'Norsk Bokmål' is now shown as 'Kalaallisut' in the language selector (core) and in the content localization-slutions from bolivia and apollo... But changes to code and recompiling is the only option.

What the core needs is a complete localization solution for standard text, content in modules and the menu. But now there's just not a complete solution we can use and consequently we use much of our time to keep up with versions of the core and third party products.

So I hope that someone like yourself get's to present a complete solution to the core team and really sell the idea. We need to be able to use our time on module-development instead of localization issues. And if the solution is handled completely inside the core- bonus! We only need to change the core to display an alternate name for a languagepack... (for those of us that are not included in the ASP.NET language set)
