Hi,

We built several modules on our DNN4.3.4 site by using starter lit, it works fine.

We also need to build a web service to expose the data through DNN4 framework for other non-DNN applications, but I could not add reference from web service project to the dataprovider and sqldataprovider  class under app_code, (since it is dynamic compile, no dll available for any class under app_code).

Question is,  how to build a custom dataprovider project on DNN4,( is it same as DNN3 dataprovider project? ) so our web service could use the DNN4 framework and customer dataprovider to access our backend databases?

thanks for any help.

daniel

Hi Daniel,

You can take a look at my dev. enviroment, although it's targetted for module development, it should show you also how to develop dataprovider only.

You can find the link in my sig.

Thanks,  Vladan,

but I did not find it, would you give the URL for the module and dataprovider pages? I am trying to learn the beast practice for the DNN4 module and provider development from the community peers.

Just update my progress, I built a separate provider project on DNN4.3.4, it works. Basically, it is same as DNN3 project.

thanks for your help.

Thanks, it is a great tutorial for dnn module and dataprovider project.

For the dataprovider, you may add details for the connectionstring in web.config file, it costs me 4-5 hours to configure the web.config and dataprovider namespace, since the reflection is different with VS2003.

And for your deployment project, would you compare it with VS2005 Publish site? I use Publish to get the precompiled site, then xcopy to production server, it works fine for me. What is the advantage to use your deployment project instead of Publish?

thanks a lot for your contribution to DNN community.
