Hi,

I need to make the file manager accessible to a user group I have created. Is it possible to make it? If not, is it possible to make a "restricted" admin group who can only access to the file management ?
If all of this impossible, do you know a free module for file management ?

working with DNN 3.3.4

Thanks in advance

It is actually possible to turn the File Manger ( and any admin control ) into an instance of a module that can be added / deleted to pages in your portal.  However, it's been a while since I've done that and can't articulate the steps for you at the moment... I'm sure someone can.  However, I wonder what your real needs are?  The problem with the above approach is that the File Manger has not built-in capability to limit access once you reach it.  So anyone who could get to the File Manager could really make a mess of things if they did not know what they were doing.

If your needs are simple, you could provide your users with ANY module which had file access capabilities ( e.g. the Documents module ) and then they could use the control in the the Add Document function to upload or find files for download.  This would also honor the folder permissions set in the file manager so that if some users had more access than others, they could not misuse it.

I am not aware of any "free" File Manager alternatives, although www.speerio.net makes a very nice professional alternative ( File Manager Pro ).

Cheers

Did you ever find a way to make this work?  I have a client that needs a file manager for them.  They are the admins of the site but they did not want to break anything so we set it up for them and they can not do normal Admin things.  We would like for them to be able to see the directory structure.  Then they can modify thing s they need to.

Thanks

Someone basically took the filemanager tool in DNN and made it a separate,

standalone utility so you can do with it as you please... the link for it is here:
