Application restarts are caused by different conditions in ASP.NET 2.0. With 1.1 only web.config was monitored, but with 2.0 all the folders in the application are monitored for recompile changes. In a nutshell, as your site settles and you are not adding portals or changing the directory structure your restarts will deminish as well.

I agree with you John.

There is terrific value you get in that flexibility.  In fact I just commented on that in my Blog this morning.  It is important to be honest and open about value and limitations so we all can weigh the cost vs. the value.

Well, just because it's slower, that doesn't necessarily mean moving to it isn't a good idea.

Im running 2.1.2 on another server and yes it fast but there are memory leak issues so Im hoping to retire it soon.  Stay with version 4 dude.

if you have a problem with 4 you will get more help with it than the old 2.1.2.  Support is a big plus.

Well, I'm committed to 4.x and beyond. It would be foolish not to move along with the masses and the technology. Don't get me wrong, I still think DNN is GREAT, I just need to be careful what I am 'advertising'. It just caught me way off guard. I am anxious to install John's Page Blaster and appreciate his work in that area. I have seen the priorities that the core team has set and their planned work ahead on performance. My continued gratitude goes to the team and everyone else who contributes to DNN for the benefit of us who are incompetent in this area!
