LOL, that is true. I don't know  about this talk for permissions. I never talked to them about that.  It's running kinda.  Email still won't work, and I hate having to put it in the root dir. It's definitely not the only thing I'd use anyway.  Apparently they sent out an email to all support guys, and they said they won't support it now.

I specifically got this hosting provider because I wanted to use DNN and I didn't want to have to do extra dev to use it... yea.....

My SMTP issue seems to effect any asp.net apps sending email.  I tried a custom app I have that should simply send me an email using config'd servers and got this back.

Request for the permission of type 'System.Net.Mail.SmtpPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

Jason,

I've seen a couple of people have this with other hosting providers.  I've never seen a fix for it.  Mine works on 1and1 just fine but it's even weirder.  I simply point to smtp.1and1.com and use anonymous and it works.  I think they have mine misconfigured somehow.

They have another server called perfora.relay.???? Something.  It's in their FAQ.  Try using that one and try using the credentials for an email account you have with 1and1 (like your admin accounts email and password).  If not try anonymous..who knows it might work.

Peterfnet,

I'd love to switch from 1and1.  But I have a .org address and I have to jump through all kinds of hoops to transfer the domain.  I also have a .com and .net domain. I wish I had not signed up with them to register my domains.  What an idiot I was.  I'm going to switch but I want to wait until I use all of the free vouchers they gave me for adwords, adcenter (MS), etc... I've heard alot of folks like webhost4life but they charge an extra 15 bucks for subdomains per year or something like that.  I'd also be interested in how hard it was to move your database from 1and1 to webhost4life because, especially when all the tables are owned by an account called db17xxxxxx (from 1 and 1) and I'm not sure what webhost4life wants for an account name.  I'd need to change ownership for all the tables.

Version: DNN 4.4.1
Hosting Provider: 1and1

You can backup the DB and import to a new host

1and1 must've changed something.  I can send mail now!

I'm going to try wiping everything and installing the latest version. Perhaps they found their ass. Or someone got their ass chewed out.
