Hello all,

Will the choosing of an external store provider have any impact on this project do you think? Is it not the wrong message to convery or is the long term plan to switch to this store ultimately on DNN?

Ultimately, the DotNetNuke Marketplace will be running on AspDotNetStorefront for DotNetNuke.  As indicated in the press release, AspDotNetStorefront has committed to developing a DotNetNuke version of the application and has actually engaged TAG Software to assist with developing the DotNetNuke version of the storefront.  We spent a lot of time evaluating the various storefront offerings, both native DNN modules, as well as non-DNN applications in ASP.Net.  In the end, we felt that AspDotNetStorefront was the best choice.  They have a strong track record in the ASP and ASP.Net ecommerce space and continue to lead the pack in key areas.  If AspDotNetStorefront had been unwilling to port their application to DNN, then we likely would have chosen another vendor.  Having worked with the AspDotNetStorefront community for the past several months, I know that this effort has increased our visibility and is attracting more developers to our platform.

One of the goals of the DotNetNuke Corp. is to increase opportunities for everyone in the DotNetNuke ecosystem.  We want more vendors developing modules for DotNetNuke since it greatly benefits end users to have a wide choice of options when developing a DotNetNuke based site.  We will continue to encourage vendors to port their products to DotNetNuke, even while we continue to implement programs to aid DNN module vendors in improving their products and providing better value and support to their customers.

I think my last post did not address the heart of your question.  Using AspDotNetStorefront does not mean that the DNN Store project will receive any less effort or support.  We feel that the market requires both lightweight and heavyweight ecommerce options.  DNN Store is an entry level storefront option that allows a vendor to sell a couple of products on their site without all of the configuration overhead of a product like AspDotNetStorefront.   While DNN Store will continue to grow and improve, it will take a long time until it matches the feature set of a product like AspDotNetStorefront which has several years of development effort behind it.

Interesting, does that mean the DNN ASPNETStoreFront would be available as a module (to buy or as part of the core?)

While you here Joe, I replied to your initial Market Announcemnet email and it bounced back with:

MailEnable: Message could not be delivered to some recipients.
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Recipient: [SMTP:joe.brinkman@tag-software.net]
Reason: Remote SMTP Server Returned: 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable or not local

I'll paste a shortened version here:
One of the things I dislike about Snowcovered is that you have to attach a file - I prefer to use Smart-Thinker to store the latest versions ofall the modules, and when they purchase from Snow they are sent an email telling them to join Smart-Thinker and I assign them to the role (or it's done manually using IONConnector). This works well as saves me a LOT of time as I have 9 modules and release new versions often. I don't want to spend ages updating files on Snow and DNN and ST.

Is it possible to master the files on my site and use DNN as a POS only?

Its still not very clear wether AspDotNetStorefront (ASPDNSF) will replace the DNN store or be a commercial add on for the manufacturer.

It is said they are making a DNN "version" what will be the compromise in functionality ?

Are there any plans to issue a functional spec so we know if its worth to wait for this new development ?

Thanks and I think this is great news for all involved.
