Hi, im new in DNN development. Im interested in your LDAP provider, im using OpenLDAP, however the communication is not directly with the LDAP server, it is through RADIOUS. Are special things that would i have to consider?

Hi again, like i said before im new in this. I would like to know more about how this LDAP prvovider works. I understand that this authenticate user/password with a LDAP server, but is necessary to have the user in the DNN data base? how you synchronize your LDAP directory with your DNN data base?. I would think that the table aspnet_membership is not used by DNN if this being used LDAP authentication. I dont know if im wrong.

Thanks,

Javier,

Read the docs on how the Windows AD authentication works - my ldap provider works similarly.  (membership document)

It binds to the ldap server using the entered username/password and gets the directory entry for that user.  It then creates a user in DNN per the lazy sync mode as done by the AD provider.  I have also worked on a project where I modified the Login page to check LDAP server username/password on every login to handle password issues.

I'm not familiar with Radius but you would have to do a custom provider since it sounds like you do not have direct access to the LDAP server (it is behind the radius server I guess?)

But the concepts would be very simllar: connect/validate username/password with external source, if valid create DNN user.

Toby ~

As you might be aware, we have a development effort underway to reengineer our authentication provider mechanism.  We are quite interested in taking advantage of the work you have done to support LDAP and would like to discuss this with you.  Would you mind dropping an email to scott.willhite(AT)dotnetnuke.com?

Cheers
