Yay... Take Me to the Community!

I've seen this done but have no idea how: having the root menu item highlighted (ie. change of color/graphics/background/something) when a submenu item from somewhere in the hierarchy of that root menu item is selected/active (ie I mean 'has been clicked' when I say selected/active).

How can this be done?

I'll leave it there and spare you the (many) details of my (many) failures to make it work.

Finally.  This seems to be it:

Now using the dnn:nav control rather than solpart menu.
Used CSSBreadCrumbRoot="myclassname" in the control definition in the ascx.

.myclassname{color:lime;background-color:pink;}

Tadaa!

Of course, I'm still a bit curious to know if I would ever have succeeded with the solpart menu.  Though it's a bit moot at this point.

Good that you found it - you can do similar in SolPartMenu by using "rootmenuitembreadcrumbcssclass" set in the .xml or the .ascx

Thanks for the help.  I may go back to it if I have unanticipated problems with dnn:nav.

.MainMenu_RootMenuItemBreadcrumb is what you are looking for. It allows you to change the format of the root menu when a user is viewing a page nested under that root.

you may want to checkout www.skinningtoolkit.com

It has a lot of very useful information.
