I recently upgraded to 3.3.4.  I have 3 portals on one DNN instance.  Yesterday I deleted one of those portals and re-created it from scratch.  When I try to register with a username that exists in one of the other 2 portals (e.g. admin) I am told that the username already exists and am not allowed to register.  How do I get back the unique namespace for each sub-portal?

A bit more info now.

The portal I deleted was the first portal that I had setup on this DNN install.  When I deleted and subsequently re-created the first portal, it seems to have corrupted all of the accounts on other portals with the same username.  E.g. the portal I deleted had 2 users admin and craig.  I had those same two accounts on two other portals and can no longer log in with those names.  All of the accounts with usernames that did not appear in the portal that was deleted/re-created are still ok.

So, just debugging the "admin" account:

admin account exists in the "users" table with an ID of 2.
ID 2 has entries in the UserPortals table for portals 4 and 6 (the other two portals) but cannot log in.

I cannot create an admin account for portal 12 (the new portal).  I get an error that the username already exists.

Any idea what table lost an entry?

Thanks for the help.

If anyone has any ideas, I could really use some help.

I have 3 symptoms and I'm not sure what originally caused the problem anymore.  I believe the 3rd problem is where the answer lies for someone with knowledge of the schemas.

1.  When registering a new user account, the username is suddenly required to be unique across all child portals.  Previously, I could have the same username on each portal.  This holds true even for "admin".

2.  If I try to login with a username that existed in a portal that was recently deleted on a different portal it fails.  With a critical error, "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."  I'll append the stack trace to the end of this post.

3.  If I login as host, and go to "Users" on one of my portals that has a now corrupt "admin" account it has all information except:  Created Date, Last Login Date, Last Activity Date, Last Password Change, and Last Lockout Date.

Thank you for any suggestions.

I don't think anything is corrupted. It is possible to register a user using a username that is already registered in another portal. This is what you do (this works in DNN 3.3.4 and I think it worked under previous versions also):

The user must register in portal #2 with the same username AND password as they have in portal #1. Other details (such as email address) do not seem to have to match.

If the username and password match an existing account in portal #1, membership of portal #2 is added to the existing account. A new account is actually not created, and you can verify this by seeing that the user's ID number is the same in the Edit User page on both portals.

Thereafter, changes to the User Credentials (First Name, Last Name, Display Name, Email Address and Password) on portal #1 also apply to portal #2 (because it is the same user account in both portals).

Hmmm - what if you don't want this functionality?

I did this by accident and now my PokerDIY portal shows info from my other portal as per this thread..

How do you separate a user once they have attached both portals to it? Do I have to make a new user (then the old user will still show up as I am scared to delete him from portal # 2)
