I implemented DNN4 on my webspace en i used the repository module for document purposes. I altered the skin to my likings and all seemed good. Allthough i thought...
In IE all works fine, but the problem rises with the use of FireFox. When i click on a [DOWNLOAD] link and the filename has spaces and dots in it, it doesn't handle the file correctly. It does download, however without the extension. I'll have to add the extension manually.

My question now is:
Is it FireFox that messes up or is DNN not compatible with the long file names (including spaces)?
AND more important; How can i resolve this issue?

Not a DNN issue.  More of a browser issue; wouldnt it be easier not to use spaces in your filenames at all?  Your other option would be to create a script that would replace spaces with something else like an "_" underscore or you can simply just take out the spaces of the files.  The later seems easier to me.

Not a DNN issue? Hmm.
Those LFN are there for many years and users don't know better. Besides IE seems to have no problem with it.
The nasty bit of renaming is that there are hundreds of files to be renamed and i can't write the script you suggested myself.

Maybe i should go on the lookout for another document module. Maybe even one that has a folder option.

I don't know if it's a DNN issue or a .NET issue with Firefox but in testing I run into the same problem with the FileManager. I haven't had a chance to do any further testing to see if it's a .NET issue with Firefox.
