Google can follow java script links just fine. In fact most of the major search engines can follow the links. Work on getting external links to point to your site. If you can just a few links from sites with PR5 or higher then Google will crawl all over your site. Thats not saying that you are going to get a number one or two spot for your keywords, but Google will start indexing you. I for one do not worry about trying to get in Google spend your time building links and content and then Google will start doing its job.

Do you have tips on getting links from PR5 sites?

Or do you know of any free PR5 web directories?

Use a tool like http://www.smart-it-consulting.com/internet/google/googlebot-spoofer/index.htm to see what googlebot sees when it looks at your page.

Thank you! This tool looks quite helpful at a first glance...

On a quick glance, it looks like all the internal links from the menu on the left are going to be lost because it uses javascript. Add a simple links module to the skin to make it friendlier to crawlers. Also, check the site log for the googlebot user agent, you can see which pages were crawled and when.

Did you look at the stats at the webmaster pages on google for last crawl, errors, etc?

On the webmaster pages, everything looks perfectly fine. I did have a few errors at first (pages not found), but these all seem to be fixed by now. The internal links from the menu are quite a problem, I think. As I'm using localization (when you switch the language, all menu entries automatically appear in the other language), I cannot use any standard menus. My "workaround" was adding a module with a short description of every section in the page and relevant links to that. It's not an ideal solution, and unfortunately, it also doesn't seem to make a difference (at least not after a few weeks).

Not too sure if this will help but have a look at http://forums.asp.net/1111593/ShowPost.aspx.

Thank you! I'll include the browser, even though I'm not sure the menu I'm using will use that information correctly... but it's definitely worth a try...

You should get and use an SEO friendly menu.
One example is the house menu from house of nuke. It has a couple fo bugs, but overall is great.

You should also read this forum topic on SEO Tips for newbies:

Alot of what you hear and read on the internet about search engines is not accurate.

For the highest ranking sites with your keywords, where are their inbound links (use Google link:site to find out) coming from?  Ideally you would have links from those sites too.  Some of their links may be from link exchanges which you can get a link from.  Of course high PR link exchanges work better.  I'm not an SEO expert, but the last 2 sites I did this with were indexed within 4 weeks.  If you are not a fan of putting a links section on your site, it only has to be until you are indexed.

As for the HouseofNuke menu, I have not used it, but I think it has issues with IE7 if I remember correctly.  I have heard good things about it though.

I think the new DNN menu has the capability to render css also (someone please correct me if I am wrong).  I am planning to redo my own site's nav with it when I have the time.
