I have just started to learn DNN. I just purchased the book "Professional dotnetnuke 4" and i am really excited about the new framework. It appears to have most everything you would want in a framework to begin a asp.net project, but I have already run in to a couple problems. The instructions for installing dotnetnuke 4 couldnt be any simpler. Im not using any advanced configured options such as setting up iis or using another sql database other than express. Im just using the file system and sql server express. So all i have to do is build the project and it should just work. well it took 3 projects to get a good build. i did the same thing each time. on the third time the build worked fine. Then i started getting an error after logging in to the admin account. the area where the control panel should load contains an error "object not set to an instance of an object" this makes me worry that the platform although seems to have a great deal of features may still need some time to mature before it is a good canidate for a buisness application. please let me know what you think about what problems im running in to becuase our company would really benefit from this platform if there is an easy solution. i just posted a thread about this before this one, but i just wanted to add more. Thank you!

In my opinion, no business-critical web application should be launched or maintained without the support of qualified professionals.  That said, I think DNN is a great choice certainly up to many mission-critical tasks.

Once DNN is up and running, its fine.

Installing and upgrading could, IMO, use some more work. Many of the forum posts are concerned with these 2 issues.

The learning curve for module creation is pretty steep IMO, but once you "get" it, its fine.

well thanks for your advice mike. i think that you are right. after spending a few days reading the dotnetnuke 4 book and running through administrative and development examples i have more confidence in the platform. Its just always sorta scary when you have very werid errors during the installation and then a couple more after the installation. Anyway, thanks again.  oh, btw, have you developed any modules latley? if so can you provide me with some resources other than this site. I heard that there are some templates and other resources to help the development of controls etc... in VS.NET.  If not thats ok too. I just thought that I would ask. :)

i agree, i think that its a pretty sweet platform now after spending some time with it. it was just very unstable during the install. I think that they have a really good product that will be the basis for some really great applicaitons.
