I just upgraded from DNN 4.3.4 to 4.3.5 and I frequently get this error message:

Server Error in '/' Application.

I just upgraded from 4.3.4 to 4.3.5 and things aren’t working smoothly.  I get this error frequently:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Source Error:

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

Stack Trace:

[NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]

   DotNetNuke.Security.Authentication.Configuration.GetConfig() +16

   DotNetNuke.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule.OnAuthenticateRequest(Object s, EventArgs e) +25

   System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +92

   System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +64

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.42; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.42

Apparently something is wrong with authentication, but I can’t locate the problem.

Even more serious is the fact that I can’t access the file manager either via Admin or Host.  I always get this error:

An error has occurred.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Security.Permissions.Controls.FolderPermissionsGrid.SaveViewState() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Page.SaveAllState() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Hello mike85021,

I have exactly the same error after upgrading from 4.3.4 to 4.3.5. In my case it happens all the time, if I understood correctly it does it in your case only from time to time.
Did you fix it?

Thanks for any help!

Regards,
Fabian

The "Object Reference" error seems to be a catch-all with adifferent Stack Trace data indicating different problems for different people.  For rme, these seem to heal themselved with a refresh, but sometimes I have to log out and back in to clear the errors.

The second error, however, always pops up when I try to access File Manager.  I don't have a clue how to fix it and althoguh I've scoured the forum for hints, nobody has come forward with even a suggestion.

Hello,

simply wanted to report how I got it fixed: There where some foders and files which did not exist in the filesystem but still were referenced on the db. Once I deleted them I could access the filemanager again.

Regards,
Fabian

    How do you find what folders and files are referenced on the db?
