OK, now things are getting even weirder...
I set up some users the other day.. and now I logged in as admin and changed their passwords...

Now when I try to log in as these users locally.. I get login failed.....

What on earth is going on?

Is there a log file somewhere I can look at?

Thanks
Vida..

I thought that SQLExpress might be the issue...

So I reinstalled with a proper SQL Server 2005 database.

And STILL not able to have users login from a remote machine....

So, now... can anyone please help me here?

It must be something wrong with my IIS set up or something?

I followed the install instructions for setting up the virtual directory to the letter...

This is all very disappointing.. I've used postnuke and joomla up to this and they both installed without a hiccup....

Vida,

I know, that DNN installation has become more complicated with all the options, that is the reason, why there is a project team working to create a DNN installer. Until it is available, I recommend to follow strictly the instructions in the installation manual, that is part of the documentation pack. To properly access your portal when it came up without issues, it is important, that the two encryption keys in the web.config file don't get changed! One of them is used to encrypt passwords and changing the key will prohibit further logins with this user/password. If you cannot retrieve previous password, register as new user and enter directly the aspnet_membership table in your database. copy password and password salt from the new user to the host account and your shall be able to login using "host" and the new password. HTH

Hello Leopold!

And thank you very much for taking the time to help! It is much appreciated.

I think I need to restate my problem.

I think I followed the install instructions exactly. And I have a working installation... I can log into DNN without problems when I am using a browser on my local machine ( called IT_01). But when I go to another machine (called TEST) and point a browser back to my machine (IT_01) then I can see the DNN site but I cannot login....

I am using the DNN admin account,  and have not changed the password, just using the defaults like it says on the home page.... I can start IE on IT_01 and point at localhost/DNN4/Default.aspx and I can log in using admin.
Then I go to the TEST machine, start IE, point it at IT_01/DNN4/Default.aspx and I see the home page, just fine... and when I click on login.. I get to the login page.. but when I again try to log in (using admin) .. nothing happens.. I put in the correct password and just get redirected back to default .aspx I don't get logged in...

I don't know what is happening.. and I don't know how to turn on debugging or to get a logfile created or whatever...

If you could tell me how to do that then maybe I could help myself?

Thanks

Vida

Vida,

if you cannot login from remote, it is most likely, that there are cookie issues, please check the security settings of your browser.
