Does anybody know what I need to do. I already had smptp up and running on my dev. machine long before installing DNN 4.3.5. Do I need to create a new domain under my local SMTP server? If so are there any special instructions I should follow or properties I should set? Please help.

Thank You!

Greetings ~

DotNetNuke has no requirement for "special" setup when it comes to an SMTP server.  The basic setup instructions for specifiying your SMTP server in DNN can be found here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/About/DotNetNukeOnlineHelp/tabid/787/TID/1363/cid/106/Default.aspx

The only thing to be aware of is that the senders email address (whether that is email originating from the host or form a portal administrator) must be permitted by the SMTP server to send mail.

Cheers

I feel like an idiot but I don't see any host pages when  Iam logged into my dev dnn install as admin.

Where are they?

When you first installed the DNN site, 2 admins are created. one is "host" and the 2nd is "admin". The "host" account is used to administrate the entire installation. The "admin" account is used to admin the first portal (portalid=0). You'll need to log in as "host" in order to configure your SMTP settings, not "admin".
