Hello to all readers.

I use a DNN 4.3.5 on my dev server (XP Pro nand IIS 5.1) on an intranet.

From a dev station, i connect as "host" and i try to create a new portal. First, i have some doubts concerning what to input in the field "Portal alias". Lets say that i am developping a new website called www.mysite.com. Do i have to input that exact string into that field ? If yes, what other actions do i have to do (on IIS or any DNS, for example) ?

I look for documentation on that subject. I am not able to locate it if it exists.

Thanks for any advice.

If you're developing with XP, as most people do, you'll have to make your alias localhost/dnndirectory/childdirectory

If you want to set this up to move to production you would add another portal alias to that portal, after creation, for the domain name.

If you're trying to host this on the web, via XP I can't help you much, I don't recommend that, I've never had much luck with running an XP box for a prodution web site, especially if you want to continue developing against the same machine.

Thanks for the quick answer, but

I want to create a parent portal. I have tried to enter <myservername>/<mydnndir>/<Mynewportalname> as an alias Also localhost/<mydnndir>/<Mynewportalname>. To simplify the things, i am working directly on the server. But i have no way to access the new portal. I can see that a new directory has been created under the portal directory, but that's all.

I have tried to read the "install it" forum, searching for same kind of posts with no success.

If somebody could give me a step by step (low level) way to create a new (accessible) portal, i would appreciate a lot.

I am sure that creating a new portal is a simple action but ... no way to get the expected result !

Thanks for any help
