Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could give me a quick guide on moving a dotnetnuke installation from running on my local machine to a server? (looking forward to getting my site online) Otherwise, a link to an article on exactly how to do this would be just as good.

I created a new dotnetnuke site with Visual Web Developer and then created a virtual directory in IIS. I then spent a few weeks skinning and customizing the site, adding new modules etc. I now want to move this site onto my current web hosting (I don't want to host the site on my own machine). I have tried searching for help on this but have not had much luck. Is it just a case of configuring a portal alias and then copying all the files onto my host?

The site is using SQL 2005 express database. My host does ASP.

Any help would be great!

Nicky

Follow up:

Ok, my previous post is a bit silly regarding moving a DotNetNuke install. I have decided to just try installing DotNetNuke on my remote server from scratch. I got all the details of the sql database provided by my host and have setup the web.config with the details.

When I try to navigate to the site to install DotNetNuke, I always get the a general runtime error that informs me if I want to see a detailed error, I need to change the web.config. I have changed the customErrors line to but this hasn't made a difference. I always get a general error so cannot possibly track what's going wrong. I have tried setting debug=true and the file seems to be valid and have checked all the database details. How do I fix this so that I can view detailed errors?

One thing is I have moved the dotnetnuke install files to a subfolder /test as I host another site on the root and want to keep it online so testing an install on the root is not an option.

Thanks for ANY help,

Nicky
