Hi,

Can't figure this out.

I am using SQLExpress, it is running - have created a new database DNN4, have a virtual directory and the permissions are set correctly - I really can't see what it is about the connection string that is incorrect.  Any advice gratefully received - here is my webconfig:

Patrick

<connectionStrings>

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express -->

<add

name="SiteSqlServer"

connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\DNN4.mdf;"

providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005

<add

name="SiteSqlServer"

connectionString="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=;pwd=;"

providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

-->

</connectionStrings>

<appSettings>

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules -->

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\DNN4.mdf;"/>

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=;pwd=;"/>

-->

if you created your database manually, use the SQL 2000/2005 syntax. SQLExpress syntax is only for file based access

If you have created your own database then you need to make sure that you use the SQL2000/2005 Connection String.

You will need to also uncomment it and delete or comment out the SQL Express string.  This is VERY important as the installation instructions do not include this step.

See this post: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/107/threadid/78613/scope/posts/Default.aspx

This was my trials of installing DotNetNuke on a W2K3 Server with SQL Express.

I hope this helps!!

The best post describing procedures to configure with SQL Express I know about is this:

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/107/threadid/21459/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Apparently, there are some additional steps other than connection string that need to be taken (and are not documented anywhere :)
