I'd like to display one image on a page, then having them all listed out.  Is it possible to do this?  Do I need to make my own module to do this or is there one already out there?

If you just want a single image on a page, you can use the Media module (formally called the image module) to put a single image anywhere on the page.  Or if you wanted, you could use the text or HTML module and just add a picture to it.
