Hi,

I use devexpress web controls with DNN. One thing that happens is that on every .ascx control where they are used it puts a <register> tag along with the version of the control.

It also puts an entry in the web.config <assemblies> section along with the version number again.

This causes lots of problems when DevExpress release a new version (virtually every quarter) in that I have to run the convertor on all my modules to update the version number and upload them all. Then, upload the new assemblies to the bin folder as also edit the web.config file. Obviously whilst this is being done the web site goes up and down.

Is there any way to stop the version from being written into the files so that I can just upload the new .dll files to the bin folder i.e. remove the dependancy on a specific version of a control.

Also, is there any way to stop these entries from being written into the web.config file?

Regards

Mike

You do not need references to the DevX assemblies in the web config of your production site. The dlls in the Bin are good enough.

I have tried that but the web site errors because the .ascx file are looking for specific versions.

I need to tell VS2005 to stop writing the version information into the .ascx and web.config file.

Regards

Mike

Strange that it doesn’t work for you. I have delivered several custom modules with the DevExpress dlls and have never had to edit a production web config. One of our module design goals is  to not require Web.config entries.

Try the DevExpress Support Center, they give good support.

I have looked at the support centre and they only say to delete the version information from the code files and web.config which is OK except that when I create more code, I have to remember to delete this information every time I drag a control onto the form.

Is this information inserted by the 3rd party control or VS2005
