Are you experiencing a PageLoadException error that says, "Object reference not set to an instance of object"? I know there are many situations that can cause this to happen, but figured I'd post a fix that worked for me. I don't know if there is a better place to post this, so hopefully this location is alright.

I recently had an error with the Forums module that was of the common "Exceptions.PageLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" type. The Log Viewer reported the error occurred in "Method: DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.Groups.RenderTopHeader". After searching for a solution I came acrosss a post that mentioned the tabIds were somehow different in the Log Viewer. I looked at my Log Viewer and my tabIds references were the same all the way through, from when there were no errors to when there were errors. However, the poster gave me the idea to look more closely at the Log Viewer details and lo and behold I found that most of the PageException errors were reporting: "UserAgent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; InfoPath.1)". Since I am using "AssemblyVersion: 03.03.05", I knew something was fishy, because it should be reporting .NET 1.1, which is what I found in an earlier "GeneralException" as follows: "UserAgent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; InfoPath.1)". What I ended up doing was going into IIS, clicking on the ASP.NET tab in the website's properties, and checking to see if somehow it got changed to .NET 2. I found it was still .NET 1.1, but I figured I'd re-apply the .NET 1.1 setting to force it and maybe fix the problem. Turns out it worked. Whether or not this is of value to others or not I don't know because I am still new to DNN. In case it might be of value I thought I'd post this for everyone.

Cheers, Dan
