Greetings all,
I have (I hope) a quick question to ask the DNN community.  I am new to using DNN and I would not classify myself as a developer, so hopefully I can phrase this in a way that does not make me look totally inept :)

I am trying to integrate the login for a PHP/MySQL based ticketing system with the user information from our DNN installation.

I've been told there are no web services right off the bat that would allow me to do this, so I've been looking into writing some .Net code that would take in an email address and password as arguements somehow, and then return true or false based on if the information validated correctly.

I've been reading through the Client API documentation and it appears there are some calls that I might be able to use to do this, but I'd love to hear what the experts think.  While going through the database I noticed that in the table that contains the hash'd password and salt, there can be multiple instances of the same username, but with different values in the application field (each of which I've been told is a seperate "portal")

What do you think the best way to accomplish this, only knowing an email address and password?  I know at some point I would have to grab their username by finding their email address in the table, but after that I'm not sure what the "best" method would be.

This is not really a question for the ClientAPI.  The ClientAPI deals with writing code against a common API that works across all browsers.  This typically is done for things like DHTML or client callbacks.  You can read the posting guidelines for this forum here.

I suggest posting your question to a different forum (like Extend It).
