I just did an upgrade from 3.0.2 to 3.3.5 and now I am running into some user errors. I am worried that something happened along the way and now I can't use some of of the user functions for my site.

Most of the site works fine, it lets me log in and add new users, etc.

But, if I go to Admin / Users and press the "All" button it shows me an unhelpful error: "Error: User accounts are currently unavailable". That generates the error in the log:

I know that there were some changes in the user stuff from 3.0 to 3.3.5. I fear that they did not get picked up by the upgrade scripts so now I am missing some data elements or indexes or something.
