Hi.

I have a couple of sites that are still at 3.0.12 and I need to upgrade them to 4.3.5.  I am working with a site right now that hasn't got any very important information on it as my guinea pig.

I am applying each incremental update and everything was fine until I tried upgrading from 3.0.13 to 3.1.0.  During this upgrade everything's fine except that the Host|Host Settings module wouldn't display and gave an error stating DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Parser Error: The ID 'cmdUpdate' is already used by another control.

I thought I would try one more upgrade (from 3.1.0 to 3.1.1) to see if the error would take care of itself.  No errors were reported during the upgrade process.  For the most part I can browse the site as a guest without any problems.  Some Text/HTML modules (though not the one on the home page) shows "An error has occured" message right justified in each module's title.  When I go to log in as host, the login screen also shows "An error has occured" message between the text label and the text field for both Username and Password.  I also noticed that the Register word from the Login control is missing and just the login text is displayed.

After I log in as host (it does let me) the follow error message is displayed everywhere the "An error has occured" was displayed when not logged in:
An error has occurred.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: There are multiple root elements. Line 46, position 5. ---> System.Xml.XmlException: There are multiple root elements. Line 46, position 5. at System.Xml.XmlTextReader.ParseRoot() at System.Xml.XmlTextReader.Read() at System.Xml.XmlValidatingReader.ReadNoCollectTextToken() at System.Xml.XmlValidatingReader.Read() at System.Xml.XmlLoader.LoadCurrentNode() at System.Xml.XmlLoader.LoadDocSequence(XmlDocument parentDoc) at System.Xml.XmlLoader.Load(XmlDocument doc, XmlReader reader, Boolean preserveWhitespace) at System.Xml.XmlDocument.Load(XmlReader reader) at System.Xml.XmlDocument.Load(String filename) at DotNetNuke.UI.Utilities.ClientAPI.GetClientAPICapsDOM() at DotNetNuke.UI.Utilities.ClientAPI.BrowserSupportsFunctionality(ClientFunctionality eFunctionality) at DotNetNuke.UI.Containers.Visibility.RegisterDHTMLMaxMin() at DotNetNuke.UI.Containers.Visibility.ShowMinimize() at DotNetNuke.UI.Containers.Visibility.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

On the home page this is shown twice underneath the Articles module and the Text/HTML module that is on the home page (the only content on the home page).

I don't want to perform another upgrade and take a chance that the errors will become more severe.  Can anyone tell me what is causing the above error and if there is a way to correct it?

I have three other 3.0.12 sites that have a lot of information in them that would be very time consuming to recreate and I need to be able to upgrade them to all to 4.3.5.  I'm hoping to find a solution to this so that I can safely upgrade these sites without losing the information that is already there.

Thanks in advance for any advice/information.
