Hello all,

We are in the process of moving our site (www.artofstrength.com) to DNN.  This is all new to me, but I am learning quickly.  DNN looks wicked cool (as we say here in Rhode Island).  I use www.1shoppingcart.com to process all of our orders in the online store.  We currently have just a few products (DVD's, MP3's, and an ebook) and will likely increase that to around 30 total products in the next couple years.

Since we are making such a huge change right now going to DNN, I was thinking we should keep using 1shoppingcart for awhile (since it works and I know how to administer it).  But obviously, I'd rather move into a fully integrated DNN solution in the longrun.  I've been experimenting with the DNN Store to see how it works.  I was thinking that perhaps it would be good to use JUST the catalog capabilities of DNN Store for now and NOT the full shopping cart / payment functionality.  Ultimately, I'd just need to put little 1shoppingcart "add to cart" button to replace the DNN "Add to Cart" link.  Is this possible?  Do you think this baby step would even be worthwhile to ease into the full DNN Store later?

Finally,  I suppose I could just use a generic catalog module to basically perform JUST the features of the "DNN Store Catalog" portion.  I would like it to automatically tile products in a grid with a picture, price, and link to a detail page for that product.  Also would like it to automatically try and resize product pictures to a uniform size.  What modules can you folks suggest for me to look at along those lines?

Thanks!

Jeff Waters

Hello Jeff and Everyone,

I am new to this forum and fairly new to DNN.  I was excited when I saw the store module.  I have been playing with it and understand that I can integrate it with my existing hosted shopping cart.  I have ran into a few problems with that though.

My problem is that my existing shopping cart uses a form post almost exactly the same way that paypal does.  So the form within a form thing comes into play.  I was wondering if there was some kind of element that I could include in the product detail template that would allow me to have an html container.

Then within that container I could dynamically generate the fields like product name, price, part number etc... Which brings me to my next problem.  On the product details template page there is a field called edit that contains the product name, manufacturer, model number etc...  I really need to separate those out into specific fields instead of everything being combined into one field called EDIT.

I think this catalog system works well, but I would rather use a cart on the backend that I have used for a long time.

As Jeff said if you all can suggest a killer product catalog standalone product that would be interesting also.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Korey

I'm afraid that I don't know of any catalog modules that would allow you create links that maintain your existing cart behind the scenes.

I'm not sure why you need it though, couldn't you just create pages, manually listing your products, and adding "Add to cart" links that insert data into your "cart-cehind" via query strings?

Hello Allan,

Please have a look at my shopping cart at http://www.shoppingcartgurus.com.  If you go to the merchant tools section and then click to open the form wizard in a new browser window you will see that if you enter all of the info like client code (just use clientcode) and then fill out the product name, price, part number, weight and then go down in the options section you will see that you can build drop down menus for options like color size etc... Then click the view code button.  You will see that it builds a basic html form post.  That will not work in DNN.  How can I get it to?

The other issue once I get that working is how can I pull individual values like product name product code etc... from DNN and automatically populate those within my form?

I can get it to work fine by using links strings, but I can't include options doing that.

Korey
