I am putting up an external site but I would like the Admin and Host menus to only be available from inside my work's network.  I was wondering if anyone has done this before and what options are available.  The only thing that I have come up with is blocking the Admin and Host URLs at the firewall.  Not a very good option since it would mean hard coding those URLs.  If that is the only option, do the Tab IDs ever change?

One thing that I have seen with other portals is that the administration URLs work on a different port number so that that port could be blocked @ the firewall.  Not sure if that is possible with DNN but it would be cleaner than blocking by URL.

Thanks,

Steve

This isn't a direct option so anything you do is either going to be rewriting code or something external to DNN.  I can see a requirement for this, but it's outside security since the logins for Host/Admin control the visibility of the pages.  You might try something where you use only child portals accessible from outside and the parent portal internally, and on the child portals use a skin that has no login.  Not exactly perfect but has the illusion you may want.

Otherwise, blocking the URLs in the firewall may be the only way.  The Tab IDs should not normally change.

Jeff
