This has been going on since I upgraded to 4.3.1 where the Skin thumbnails on the skins page do not display.  I have created a brand new install of 4.3.5 and when I hover over the images I see http: //portaladdress/portals/portaladdress/portals/_default/skins/dnn-blue/horizontal menu- fixed width.jpg. What is going on here? It is long overdue for this to be corrected. I understand those responsible for fixing it may not be experiencing this problem, but hundreds of us are. It just depends on the environment the portal is hosted in. At home in my domain I have no problem. At work I have 4 web servers experiencing the same behavior and one that does not. They all are Windows Server 2003 with SP1 utilizing SQL 2000 or 2005.

How are paths generated for skin thumbnails? It seems to be a logical place to begin troubleshooting. I have 43 Portals and numerous Skin packages out there that no one can see without previewing. My customers are getting upset over this. Please help me find a solution.

Have you found a solution to this?

I have seen it before but not sure on reason why - but will continue checking through forums as it's quite a nuisance that the previews dont' work.

Nina,

I have opened a Gemini ticket on this issue. It is http://support.dotnetnuke.com/Default.aspx?p=23&i=4474 and I hope there is a fix in the next release or at a minimum a doucmented hack to fix the problem.

I have more information on this issue. AS a test I created another fresh portal (4.3.7) with a host header URL of http://training.  I located the portal files in a directory on my D drive, called D:\intranet; after setting everything up it installed fine. However, when I hover over the thumb nails they read as follows (please note the address and what I bolded above):

http://training/portals/intranet/portals/_default/skins/dnn-blue/vertical menu - full width.jpg

I am patiently trying to resolve this issue. http://training/portals is a valid URL, while intranet/portals is a valid absolute path. This is really confusing me.  Environment:  My SQL Server 2005 is hosted on a Windows Server 2003 SP1 cluster and the web site is hosted on a seperate 2003 SP1 Server. I cannot understand WHY my system is picking up BOTH the relative site URL and THEN concantenating it with the Absolute directory structure. There has got to be something happening during the install of the portal OR a bug in the core that is not resolving something correctly.

I can do all this at home and everything works fine. I don't have a cluster, but the OS and SQL server versions are the same. If anyone else is having this problem please leave your comments on the bug tracker on issue 4474 so we can collectively resolve this issue.

Thanks to everyone that is listening.

Interested to read this as I have been searching for ages for info on this issue;  I have exactly the same problem. The issue is not specific to version 4 though as I'm still running v3.2 on 1.1 .net framework.

I  have several installations too, all using the same release, additional modules etc so identical in all respects accept one of them (the one i need most) has developed the problem you describe with duplicated path in the url to to the thumbnail image, whilst the actual link to the preview images is works fine.

Given that the path to the image and the link to the preview would presumably be generated in the same way I'ts really frustrating that one works and one does not.

Great to see that Nina has raised this; other posts I've managed to find relating to similar tend to be unanswered. And I'd almost given up!

Regards

Oliver
