I'm using this module under DNN 3.1.1 as a user contact list.  Lately, however, the output on the web pages have been very strange...

It is supposed to look something like:

Lastname Firstname Phone# E-Mail
User1       User1     User1    User1
User2       User2     User2    User2
User3       User3     User3    User3
User4       User4     User4    User4

But lately two of the modules are displaying the information like this:

Lastname Firstname Phone# E-Mail
                              User3    User3
                              User4    User4
User1       User1     User1    User1
User2       User2     User2    User2
User3       User3
User4       User4

Only the top 1 or 2 rows seem to be doing this.  If I edit the row, all the information shows up correctly (updating the information makes no difference).  If I delete the row, and re-create it, it displays properly again, but then a different row takes it's place as being mangled.  I started deleting and re-creating all of the rows, but I did a couple of dozen rows and different rows keep showing up mangled, so I gave up.

I have many other instances of this module throughout the website, and none of the others are displaying this kind of behaviour.  I know it isn't a size issue because one of the modules is smaller than several others on the website.  Since all of the modules appear to be using the same SQL table, I'm stumped on what might be causing this.

This seems to be a known bug, have a look at http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=1865. After you added fields, this strange effect can happen, so either alter the sproc as stated or switch over to gammacon.UserDefinedTable, that is available for free download at DeutschNetNuke = DotNetNuke in German and has many features added. We are currently working to add all enhancements and corrections into the Core Module.

Thanks for the response.  However, I have never re-compiled anything for DNN, so I have no idea of how to do it, or even if it is required (noticed a lot of the files are text files).

So, that leaves me with a couple of solutions:

1.  Switch over to the German version.  I'm assuming this version installs seperately from the DNN Core module?  In that I'd have to copy all the existing entries over to the new version?

2.  Wait for the 3.2 release.  Any timeframe on that?  Is it going to be soon enough to delay the complainers or should I break down and migrate everything over to the German version temporarily?

Dan,

That fix does not require a dotnetnuke core change, it's actually an issue with the stored procedure. You would make the edit in the sql server database. The new release should be out at about the same timeframe as 3.2, which is targetted for early November.

You can see the roadmap for the UDT project here

Dan,

thank you for contributing. First let me assure, I do not expect you to do any recompilation ( I myself do not even know, how to spell it), as SQL scripts can easily been executed by entering them into the text box, that is astonishingly displayed, if you activate "SQL" in "host" menu, activating "execute script" and hitting (more or less by accident) the link "run".

About your solutions:

1. gammacon.UserDefinedTable is an enhancement of the core version, that comes with a German translation included (that does not harm anything, believe me) and has been developed by German developers (I apologize), but it will work like any core module and there is a script available, to update your current UDT data, so you can continue to work as usual.

2. Unfortunately, the new core module will rely on the gammacon enhancements, because there are the same people responsible for it (and believe me, although world war 2 has been finished only 60 years ago, you can trust our promises). There will be upgrade paths as well for the core module as for the gammacon.UDT  (btw: that's part of the German's infiltration strategy - but please, do not tell anybody). As our mole in the core team told you, we plan to release the next version in the first half of Nov. 2005 - but be sure, whatever you decide: we will get you!!!!
