Hi,

I have DNN435 setup as an intranet portal with the latest ADfix for v435 applied. I have followed instructions from this forum for AD full windows authentication for configuring the DNN portal. (I wish to use Windows authentication mode). I have passed the Authentication module setup settings and it said all was OK, and can access AD and synchronize fine.  I have added several DNN global security roles to the portal that match exactly the AD security groups on our domain.
I have a AD test user account for our AD domain that is a member of the AD security group that has a matching DNN security role.
Here is the issue:
The AD test user account logs into a workstation properly, the user already has set up IE Security Zones to allow the portal as trusted. The already has a shortcut created to the http://portal/admin/security/WindowsSignin.aspx on the user's desktop. The user has never been to the portal yet. He clicks on the shortcut and IE goes into an endless loop, and the user never gets added to the portal and the page never loads fully.
Now if I go into the DNN portal settings as a superuser and manually add this AD test user to the registered users, then later he can automatically login and it goes through and he can access the portal.
Could someone help me figure out what is going wrong? I thought that the users on the domain would automatically get added to the DNN portal upon their first visit to the DNNportal. Also I thought they are supposed to automatically get put into the appropriate DNN security role that matches their AD security group. This is not working very well for first time access to the DNN portal.

This has been discussed at great lengths in other threads, but I've never experienced it myself.

One thing I'd ask you to try though:  Use the http://portal/DesktopModules/Authentication/Logon.aspx URL instead, and see what that gives you.

I have tried the URL straight to the Login.aspx as you described and still get looping. Oh, as an added note, I have a 2nd DNN portal using v335 set up on the same dev server, the exact same way, with the AD fix for 335, and exact same settings, DNN security roles etc. so that I may try windows auth, with AD module, and I get the exact same problem. Any Active Directory domain user visiting the DNN portal for the very first time will not be able to access, the browser just loops and makes many requests, and user is never added.
This is very critical, as I wish to implement this for Domain of 800+ users and I don't want to have to add each user into the DNN portal manually.
Let me note that I have been very careful with configuration with these fresh development installations of DNN and the AD module is the one I really need to get working for the Domain. These developement DNNportals are setup cleanly, and I have not added any custom changes except the ADfix for each one.
My only last conclusion is that maybe the ActiveDirectory for our domain is configured so poorly that DNN doesn't know what to do. I am at a standstill.

Also in addition to my reply I have tried to figure out what is happening by trying to go to the portal with Firefox  browser. As I stated earlier, this is using a domain test account logged into a typical workstation, and the user account has never been to the portal yet. I have set both IE and Firefox to allow cookies for the Portal, and have turned off IE pop up blocker and have set the portal to be trusted in the IE zones.

I am testing all these URLs:

http://portalserver/portal/admin/security/WindowsSignin.aspx
http://portalserver/portal/DesktopModules/Authentication/Logon.aspx
http://portalserver/portal/

In firefox, it gives an error that states:Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

I have looked at the cookies in Firefox that were left for DNN and it has this:

Cookie Name authentication.status.0
Path: /
Send for: Any type of connection

Does this shed any light onto why an AD user account can't access the Portal to get automatically added to the DNN users and synched?

This gets into an area where I don't have a lot of knowledge, sorry I can't be of more assistance.  I know it works quite well though, so there is "something" missing.  What are the permissions you have set for the site?
