Greetings all,

I have a DNN 4.03 intranet portal configured and am ready to make it live. I am going to turn on Authentication with Active Directory in our Windows Corporate network and want to ask some quick questions of the group to make sure no adverse side effects can occur.

When AD authentication is turned on and it synchronizes, does the DNN Auth module write anything back to the Windows Domain controller(s)? Is it a one way communication?

When I was first investigating AD integration last year, there was a module for sale on Snowcovered that stated something about re-writing the windows passwords with a different hashing method, or something like that. I want to make sure that I minimize the risk of locking out our 800 users.

Can someone confirm how the DNN auth module works with AD?

Thank you so much for your help.

It's a one way communication path. DNN doesn't change anything on the AD. I don't know for sure about 4.0.3 but in 4.3.5 the password that's written to DNN is not the same password that's coming from the AD (for security purposes and it doesn't need to use the DNN password ever so it doesn't matter what's in there). You should have no problems with your user accounts under the AD.

Now that's just the layman's terms and should be taken with a grain of salt. I haven't had a chance to step through the authentication code to see exactly how it works. Everything I've said above has just been my observations from using it and what I've seen in other posts here on the forum.

BTW, I'd upgrade your portal to 4.3.5 before going live.
