I believe this all stared when I was playing around and added a user accounts module to a page.

- the page would only display the user account module for anyone logged in - other users would see all modules

- gave users permision to edit, went to the page as a regular user and deleted the module

Now the problem I have: clicking on "Site settings" or "admin | site settings" takes me to user accounts not site settings. I have another portal on the install which works correctly

thanks

Check to see that you don't have (or accidentally created) a child portal. You can do this by logging in as host.
Under Host menu option,
select Portals.

List here the Title and Portal Aliases names, and I can tell if you that is the problem.

You can garble or fake the letters of the URL, for your security, if you wish. Just be sure to keep the / / /
structure intact when writing them down here.

Marksman,

The only other portal I have is the default portal whose alias is //localhost:8886

This portal with the problem has an alais of www.xxx.dyndns.org:8886

when I try to edit any portal's alias it takes me to the manage profile screen of the current user (same as when I try to go to 'site' - it displays manage profile of the current user)

I kinda makes me think it may have something to do with security gone haywire or more likely a bug?

I'll try to reproduce the error and document in a default protal setup

thanks for taking the time to commenet

This is pretty easy to do - unless its specific to my install, though I tried it on another server with the same result

Symptoms : when clicking on 'Site settings' you are taken to 'Manage Profile' of the current user instead

#1 Create a new portal (or use your existing if you want to risk it) - used person site as template

#2 Add a new module of type 'user accounts' - I put mine with all defaults into content pane

#3 Click on home in the menu

#4 Click  on site settings or menu Admin | site settings - you will not see site settings but instead 'Manage Profile'

I'm a DNN novice, but this seems like a bug to me. I've totally ability to get into site settings - it would be great to get it back

In the first environment - Win2k server IIS5, DNN 04.03.05, SQL server 2000

second setup - Win XP pro, DNN 04.03.05, SQL Express 2005

Please let me know if anyone can replicate this

Thanks in advance

PS: this is the most moderated forum I have ever seen, any reason for this?

Ahh, in your most recent post you mentioned that you did this with a Personal Site template.
This is the reason I asked about child portals earlier, because I had the same experience when using the Personal Site template, to make portals.
(In fact, I have fully implemented child portals at my site, and those child portals are under the control of other people.)

Yes, the choice of Personal Site does exhibit this behavior, if you are logged in as either the host or the child site admin. I have seen this myself and that is the reason I thought to reply originally.

Is it a bug? Well, I don't think so. It is odd, but if you want to edit the site settings under this circumstance, you need to log in as HOST (host) at your site. (In this one situation.)

The moderation here is unusual, but it's been this way since I started coming here around April. With DNN 4 running so well now, I don't think they need to exhibit so much control over threads except for the first, original post. (my opinion)
