I have no option to discuss books, that are not currently available, but the core team book does not cover module developement with DNN 4.

Cheers Sebastian

I have to confess I've only got up as far as chapter 10 (reading it sequentially, start to finish) of the core team book, but unless I'm mistaken see the following chapters on module development:

Chapter 12: Beginning Module Development.
Chapter 13: Developing Modules: The Database Layer.
Chapter 14: Developing Modules: The Business Logic Layer.
Chapter 15: Developing Modules: The Presentation Layer.

Are you saying that Building Websites with VB.NET and DotNetNuke 3.0 is more of a module development book whilst the core book is more of an all rounder?

Cheers

Alex

I regard Professional DotNetNuke 4.0: Open Source Web Application Framework for ASP.NET 2.0 as the bible

I've browsed through this book.  Considering I've never written a line of ASP.NET code, I think this one is above my head right now.  I'll certainly pick it up once my feet are wet, provided we decided to use DNN.

Which would seem to be the same as "Beginning DotNetNuke 4.0 Website Creation in C# 2005 with Visual Web Developer", although using VB.NET instead of C#.  This looks like a good book for me, as the first half of the book covers ASP.NET development with VWD and it doesn't get into DNN development until about halfway.  Incidently, I got a copy of this from Amazon Marketplace for $5.78 ($2.29 + $3.49 S/H).

Alex,

no, but "Professional DotNetNuke 4" does not take into account latest evolvements regarding module development for DNN 4. There will be shortly a new module developement guide written by Michael Washington, based on the chapters available at www.adefwebserver.com/dotNetNukeHELP.

Keep in mind that the v.4 book was written pretty much before the version 4 DNN Framework was available.  Most of the screenshots and descriptions are out of date, and the module development is pretty much ripped from v.3 module development and not current practice.

I find most of the DNN books to be out of date, the framework develops too quickly.  But then the documentation is also out of date, and if it weren't for the project blogs and forums the correct information would be guesswork.  The books do give a decent beginning explanation, but none of them is very good or accurate at either module development or skinning, and even administration is marginal.  For example, the DNN 4 book by Wrox has an explanation of the new Member Role, but much of it is an extension of the DNN 3 version of the same book.

The best information is always online.  :)

Jeff
