We've set up a private "member" role so that registrants have to be authorized by the administrator in order to access members-only pages. Problem is with the automatically-generated emails. We get the email advising the adminsitrator of a new user registration, but once the administrator authenticates the user there is no mail generated to the new user.

I assume my SMTP settings are correct since the admin email functions correctly. Does anyone have an idea what would cause this problem?

Thanks.

Are you sure the 'notify user' option is selected when you make the change of the users?

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, the Notify box is checked. Here's an interesting wrinkle: If I go in as administrator and add a user, the notification is sent to the user as well as the administrator. But if the user registers himself and I just add the "member" role and authorize, no mail is sent to the user.

Waddya think?

Hi,

I'm having the same issue. When I create a new user (and have notify checked) no email is sent. When I go to configure the users roles and add them to our defined role, the user is notified. So I know my host email settings are functional, it just doesn't send any emails when I create a new user. This is a bit of a problem as we are creating these users to access an online store.

Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

Thanks, Steve

Be sure the Administrator & Host accounts have a valid email address.

We have seen issues like you are describing when one or the other had an invalid address.
