I agree with this. Now i may not be the type of beginner that marksman is talking about, and i have way more experience than the average newbie that finds out about dnn through there web host, but i do believe that to someone who knows little this forum can be a little intimidating.  when i was first learning about dnn i too hated the fact that i had to wait to have my post reviewed. when you are learning a new techology like this you want information as fast as you can get it.  I think the idea of letting post through automatically and then reviewing them later is  a much better idea and has worked beautifully on many other forums i belong too.  I think the biggest problem with dnn foum module is not that it is getting overloaded. it just lacks a lot of the features and ease of use that is in most other forums.  Offering activemodules as a solution is not really a solution.  A forum is very simple and i think dnn core members should look into this more and really look to make improvements.  this module i feel is the most important to them because they use it heavily themselves and it is integral to sharing there information. Dnn has made great stride in a short amount of time dont get me wrong but simply put this forum needs help. lets work on fixing it rather than looking for bandaids.

A forum is only as effective as the community behind it.  I think DNN is at a juncture where some investment in the community could go a long way to helping the community continue to grow.  New people are turned off by reading posts of folks complaining about unanswered posts, or of the technical issues these forums have.

I'd also like to say that I think the core team does do a great job.  DNN is a great product - its why I am here.  I wasn't trying to be critical - only to offer constructive feedback.  An expansion of roles/opportunities for volunteers/help within the community aspects of the project (like these Forums) can only help to foster the growth of the community as well as hopefully freeing up core members for more of the technical aspects.

This is not to say that technical things such the issues with these Forums themselves can be ignored.  They are part of the equation too.  I know that these Forums are being worked on behind the scenes and that Shaun mentioned new infrastructure coming.  Hopefully these things will help.

FWIW, as a newbie, I have found www.dnnwiki.net very useful.

Cheers, John

Okay, I want to say in advance that I don't want to insult anybody, (especially not crispy)...

About searching the forums:
I usually search the forums with Google since the current search of the Forums doesn't work for me.
But I got tired of either ending up on the asp.net forum with posts about version 2.1, or typing:
Site:www.dotnetnuke.com every time in the google searchbar.

So I created a simple page that adds the right options to the search string and posts this to google.
Please use or copy the page if you think it's usefull.
I will remove the page if I don't like it anymore or if the search funtion of the forums is up to date.
The page is here

Since this thread has been up for a couple of weeks, and many comments have been applied affirming how the process of using the forums could be made easier, I guess I would like to ask ...

Is there a willingness on the part of the core team or site admin to be supportive of changes regarding:

(1) Introducting a DNN "Beginner's Forum" ?

(2) Pulling together in support of a site such as dnnwiki.net ?

Anyone with the power to behold these changes, what do you say?

Thanks.
