I have recently found out that I cannot access my data that I create and upload with DNN 4.3.5. using either FTP or MS Frontpage.

DNN was a value application that came with my hosting plan on godaddy.

Here is a confirmation e-mail from support:

-------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for taking time to contact Online Support. When using a Value Application, the directory in which the files are stored and the database itself are hidden away from the user. You are only able to modify the Value Application through its online options. If you wish to have access to the files and database, you will need to install the program yourself.

Please let us know if we can assist you in any other way.

Brian P.

Does anyone know a way to upload multiple files or download multiple files? I assume there is probably an addon module that can do this, but am still new to DNN and do not know if I can even upload from within DNN new "add-on" modules.

I am having the same problem as you are.  These were my responses from godaddy:

--------------

I am trying to build my website with dotnetnuke. Through dotnetnuke, I cannot upload files larger than 2mb before it times out. I need to be able to ftp to my dotnetnuke directory. Is there a way to do that?

--------------

Unfortunately, the requested functionality is not available.
Thank you,
-------------
Do you know of a way I can transfer large files to my dotnetnuke account?
-------------

Thank you for contacting Online Support. You can FTP large files to your hosting account and then reference them inside dotnetnuke, however, if the Value App was used to install dotnetnuke, you will not have access to install directly to the dotnetnuke directories.
-------------

The problem I am having then, is whenever I try to upload a file through a dotnetnuke module, it browses my home computer, I can't get it to look at the hosting account directory.

Looks like you guys should do as they are saying and install it yourself from scratch. You should be able to export most of your site from DNN as templates with content included and import it into your own fresh installation.

You should probably get a hosting account that lets you have full control over everything before going too far though.

I found this http://forums.asp.net/1227405/ShowPost.aspx which is instructions on setting up a dnn installation on godaddy.  It also has instructions to access the data in your dnn virtual folder if you use the preinstalled setup.

True. Pretty insane isn't it? I use GoDaddy's auto-installation of DNN on two shared-hosting sites. If you use their web form for technical support, and ask that your request be raised to the advanced support team, then GoDaddy will make a backup of your database. (As you know, that database is not directly accessible by you, the owner.) They will then place the backup database into your FTP folders so that you can download it as a binary (.BIN) file or an ASCII file. So that's one thing, although it may not be so useful.

This claim is completely inaccurate. You can deploy an ASP.NET 2.0 application called Web Explorer Lite to your root user folder on GoDaddy. Then, you can use Web Explorer Lite to get to any and all of your root DNN installation folders and files, remove them, replace them, etc. Web Explorer Lite is pretty much like Windows Explorer, it simply let's you navigate your DNN root folders, which you otherwise cannot reach. It's an FTP-like client with a nice graphical interface. If you need help deploying Web Explorer Lite on your website, just ask. You can also ask me directly on my forums at commonmancomputing. c o m . *Note: This refers to DNN files, not database tables.

Almost everything that GoDaddy support told to gt6303c is patently false.

A good plan on the export template idea. I am going to do exactly this on my local Cassini + DNN installation, so that I can test this out before I make the big blank-o-rama on my current and perfectly functional GoDaddy DNN site. I welcome all queries to my forums at commonmancomputing. c o m .
