Hi,

Does anyone know what changed in the recent DNN versions regarding the SMTP settings ? I've never had a problem setting the SMTP server to "Localhost" and send emails (local machine) but on DNN 4.3.7 I get this error :

Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay etc..

I tried leaving  SMTP settings empty (which also worked before) and localhost without success.

Thanks in advance for your help

Leif

Leif,
Might I ask who is your hosting company?  I'm curious because I'm with DiscountASP.net and I used to get this message.  I found out that they changed the whole email system on me without letting me know.  That could be the source of your problem too.  Not DiscountASP, but your hosting company may have changed things on you.  Did the change happen in conjunction with DNN 4.3.7?

Hi KFayal

I'm having this problem on my local developing machine and I've noticed it since I started using DNN4.3.x . I haven't yet upgraded any of the sites that are LIVE.

I never experienced this before and I've not modified the settings. I really like to get things perfect on my developing machine before moving it over to my host.

Thanks

Leif

I know nothing about DNN changes regarding SMTP settings.  But the response "Unable to relay" indicates that you are trying to send an email to a user on a different email server (relaying) but your SMTP server is not allowing relaying.  Your SMTP server should be configured to allow relaying from the IP address of your DNN site.

Relaying is turned off by default to prevent SMTP server from being hijacked by SPAMers.

I need to setup SMTP on my LocalHost so that I could test the emils when a ne user registers, and email to be sent from Store moduel. Please document your step here so I could follow to set mine up.
