Just for the heck of it I reinstalled DNN 4.3.5 on Godaddy and set up a working site, then upgraded to 4.3.6 and the grey upgrade screen but when I click on the "access your portal" I get the same IE7 spinningg wheel for minutes and never timeout.

This is the reason I am going to stick with 4.3.5 for now. The 4.3.6 "forever spinning" error can be described as one of custom porting, but you will find folks in the forums having the same result with 4.3.6 and subdomain installations, and more. I don't have the time to fiddle with fixing 4.3.6's issues especially on an already cantankerous GoDaddy virtual folder system and easy lack of permissions access. By the way thanks for the detailed instructions (for manual GoDaddy install) on the other thread.

I'm installing dnn 4.3.6 on a GoDaddy Deluxe site.  Got the 4.3.5 version working fine that is installed by GoDaddy itself.

Trying to hand install 4.3.6 and modified the 2 places in web.config for the database with version 2.0 Asp.net.

I get the following error message when running for the first time:

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

Is there a switch somewhere I have not set?  I've successfully installed dnn 3.X in the past many times.

Thanks for any help

HI

I SEE YOU BOTH TALKING ABOUT RUNNING DNN433 ON GODADDY ACCOUNT.

I WAS WONDERING IF YOU MANAGED TO INSTALL IT TO THE ROOT FOLDER SINCE I TRIED THIS IN VAIN FOR A LONG TIME.

Tamim --

Tamim, looks like you have been following the GoDaddy manual install saga since June (for me, since May) so you already know about the oddities of manual install on a GoDaddy shared hosting site. After many months of working within the GoDaddy framework for one-click install of DNN (their 'Value Apps' install) , and , watching people struggle with manual install of DNN at GD, I have concluded that it's just not worth it to fight with GD regarding DNN. I really did try, though. I gave it an honest 7 months worth of patience and effort. GD doesn't allow access to change the root permissions and this sets a person up for a real battle with regard to DNN. There are other sneakies ... for instance you have to work at getting a copy of your database even if you use their one-click Value Apps install. So despite my site being a great success on GD with DNN, I have decided to take my business elsewhere, now that I feel more proficient all around with website design. In my case, I have moved on to DreamHost which offers a great open platform that you actually feel like you are in the steering wheel for just a dollar more per month than GD. I can't complain about GD because they gave me a fully prorated refund for the 17 of 24 months I had remaining with them. By the way, did you ever get your right-to-left scripting (prob. Hebrew or Arabic) working OK? I work with both of those languages. My site is commonmancomputing. c o m
*Note: DreamHost is a *nix provider and does not support ASP platform, so no DNN on DreamHost. But this is only for one site. I have other DNN sites and continue to be a great supporter of DNN.
