Thanks for posting the NorthernStar solution for manual installation of DotNetNuke DNN on GoDaddy.

The instructions as they exist today (12-02-2006) are incomplete, as you note, regarding the need to relocate web.config temporarily.

I didn't go through the /bin creation of the NorthernStar solution yet, but I was able to manually install DNN 4.3.7 today (12-02-2006) on my GoDaddy shared hosting. It installed without errors on the first try.

Thanks,
Travis

Travis, Thanks for the information, we should maybe informed northernstar so they correct their web site ??
Or maybe, you can tell us which different method you used to reach the goal ??? I had problem with the 4.3.6, but it seems that 4.3.7 is much easier... Just a feeling.
What did you done different than the method given here ? Explain us, it will be interesting !

First, for the benefit of any others who might be wandering into this thread at anytime into the future, I was able to manually install DotNetNuke DNN 4.3.7 on GoDaddy shared hosting using the combination of posts/sites as follows: (install date 12-03-2006)

{with Google search term hits next}
Reading the following posts helped me to help install DNN 4.3.7 DotNetNuke 4.3.7 successfully on the first try with help GoDaddy DotNetNuke shared hosting manual install installation on DNN GoDaddy help shared hosting ...

1) http://www.northernstarsolutions.com/Default.aspx?tabid=61
That site will help you in particular to set up your database on GoDaddy shared hosting, and then get the connection strings for that database correct in your web.config file.
[Note: At the bottom of that page is a further set of instructions to accomplish after manually installing DNN. I did not go through that final portion of instructions yet.]

2) http://tinyurl.com/y6vpaf ... 7th post in that thread, by author jja28, time stamp 9:52:31 PM
That post will help you in particular with permissions on the installation path, and more on the web.config file.

3) http://tinyurl.com/yyh4je ... 5th post in that thread, by author DavidWSnow, time stamp 11:22:30 AM
That post will help with some GoDaddy control panel issues, and detailed steps on some common errors in this process.

Also, Declic, a little history. The NorthernStar page has been there for a long time, it was one of the available resources for GoDaddy shared hosting users back in May, 2006, when I first started with DotNetNuke 4.0.2 {at that time} as a "know nothing" consumer. It seems that according to the survey on the right side of the NorthernStar web page, less than 50% of people are able to successfully make the installation. This is not to say that the instructions are wrong there, because there are other factors. Other factors such as ... DNN 4.3.6 . DotNetNuke 4.3.6 gave a lot of trouble to people attempting to install DNN in any sort of restrictive environments, including localhost environs. As luck would have it, I started to desire to learn how to manually install DNN on GoDaddy on the day 4.3.6 was released. But I kept an eye on the forums for a few days and discovered so many reported problems with 4.3.6, that I thought "hmmm well maybe I should wait until 4.3.7" And indeed this may have been helpful, because I was able to manually install DNN 4.3.7 on GoDaddy shared hosting yesterday (12-03-2006) on the first attempt.

I am considering to make a more 'beginner' oriented page of instructions, for manual installation of DNN DotNetNuke on GoDaddy shared hosting, on website at http://www.dnncassini.com . The emphasis there at dnncassini.com is really more on backup/restore of a DotNetNuke functional site, but there is no reason why it could not also have a more comprehensive section devoted to manual installation of DNN on GoDaddy shared hosting. Perhaps you would like to collaborate with me on some ideas (from the pedagogical sense) to make the process easier for people.

Thanks,
Travis

Ok, I better understand why I had such trouble to install DNN 4.3.6 (but no problem at all with DNN 4.3.7) ! And I am a completely NEWBIE with DNN !!!!
Anyway, I succeeded with northern solution, because I done the WHOLE set of instructions which are located at the end of the page.

For sure it will be interesting to have another page with many explanations. I am eager to see it, I am wondering right now if I have to switch back the permission of the root to read only or not, maybe I will find the information there ???

If you wish, I give the URL of a file in another thread, concerning hosting provider, it may interest your future webpage, I am ready to give the link to you if needed.
