Hi,

I've followed the Starter Kit instructions with 4.3, and all is fine until when I add the new "Widget" module to a page.  I select it, and press the Add button but it doesn't appear and no error is reported.

Any clues of where I can look to see what's going wrong?

thanks.

Please... can someone help me?

I just removed the DNN site, database, etc. Reinstalled the 4.3.6 starter kit and followed the tutorial, and getting exactly the same problem.... ie. when I select the Widget module and try to add it to a page the page refreshes it isn't there and there's no error.

I'm logged in as host too.  I've tried both vb and c#, same thing.

Can someone please point me to some things to check, or any hints at all... thanks.

If my fuzzy memory recalls is the 'widget' module something from the official documentation?

Anyhow, many people (myself included) have had great success with tutorials like these:

http://dotnetnuke.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNuke/tabid/195/Default.aspx
or
http://vladan.strigo.net/Default.aspx?tabid=78

I hope these help.  They are straightforward (hardest part is usually visual studio setup) and do work nicely.

Thanks Brian.  I've actually followed the first tutorial you linked to.

I think there must be something fundamentally wrong with my machine.  Is there a log somewhere I can examine? What tables in the DB get modified when I add a new module to the site?

I'm using VS.2005, latest build starter kit for DNN, SQL 2000, everything else works in DNN...eg. can add a Text module and it works fine.

I'm no expert at this ... except that I've followed the tutorials and now am happily building my own modules.  But I'd review the module definitions: host > module definitions -- then find your definition, click the pencil, make sure that you've added a definition and the 'view' control (with blank key, type specified as 'key' and the source pointing to your user control).

Heck, just try creating a blank page with some ordinary html on it (take out the inherit attribute in the control directive unless you plan to compile), register it with the definitions and add it to a page.  That's the simplest sort of module.  No programming necessary. Maybe that's a good place to start to test out your system(?).
