I put the DotNetNuke file into my Abyss Web Server and when I tried to access it, it gave me this error message:

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.03.06

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

Please help me to solve this m, I am extremely new to DNN and do not understand exactly what to do to et it up and running on my server.  Thanks.

hblott,

You will need to have a database set up prior to installing DotNetNuke. You have probably done this, but just in case:
--> Create a database using an SQL Server software product. You need to name it distinctly (ex: "dbDotNetNuke") and give it login credentials (username, password).

Then the key thing is to edit the web.config file, in the connectionStrings section, so that when DNN starts up it will connect to that essential database.

Here is an example of the connectionStrings section of the web config file on a working local web server:

Best,
Travis

Hi,

I had already created the database. And the same installation works fine when I follow it on an XP workstation running Cassini as the web server. If you notice the install log, the process was nearing completion of installation of the desktop modules when the error happened. That indicated that lots of writes to the database had happened already. I verified that they were ther my opening up the database in SQL Express management Studio.

The consistency across versions suggests that it is related to the way that IIS 6 is handling some steps just before creating the portal. Are there any extensions besides .NET 2.0 that need to be turned on?

Thanks,

Bill Neaves

Bill Neaves,

Hi! Since the above post is your first appearance in this thread, I can't tell which install log you are making reference to.

Thanks,
Travis
