A problem I've run into time and time again is that average users simply can't handle the concept or complexity of having to resize images before adding them to a page. This is particularly an issue when adding images using a Rich Text Editor like DNN FTB. Users are uploading fairly large images and then just using the "resizing feature" (i.e. Dimensions) of the Image Gallery to get the image to the size they want.

Us techies of course know this has two problems:
-Browser based resizing produces low quality images that look grainy.
-It can result in very slow load times as these image files may be very large even though only a small image is being displayed.

So, I'm wondering, outside of training, how are people dealing with this? Has anyone seen anything that solves this?

I'm considering writing something that will parse through the resulting text HTML and for any <img> tags with dimensions, use code that properly resizes images.

Thoughts?

You're talking about parsing - I wonder if you can just remove the height and width attributes from the img, so the average user will understand they need to resize it. You could also create a separate app that resizes all images in a folder. The only other thing I'd suggest is find or make better modules that would either resize or limit dimensions.
