Hi
I would very much like to be able to use the native documents module but it has behaviour that I find confusing (at best).
If I am downloading a file I want and expect to see a file requester that allows a choice of open or download.
Why does the docs module not function in this way please ?

Instead it opens a new browser window and then it opens a reader to suit the file. !!!!!!!
This is a very arrogant thing to do. User controls should allow choice not assume they know what the visitor wants to do. This is always counter productive.

If I was to show a client this module they would probably think its broken. Perhaps it is. The only way to avoid the new browser window is to link the file by URL - very user friendly. Still dont get asked what "I" want to do though!

What is the problem with doing this the way everyone else does it ?

On Balance
On the one hand I have to expect that many dnn modules are simply a good starting place for ones own development and I am always greatful for that and all the good work of the DNN coders but a documents download feature is a fundamental part of most websites and it seems to me that this strange behaviour is all that stops the docs module from being usable.

Thanks
Ian

The new version (3.0.106) contains code to "force download" if you click the "download" link (and if you click the "title" link, it behaves as you describe above).

Hi Anthony
Thanks for the info - I downloaded the new version the other day but no time to look yet.
