I have it working again.

So this is what worked. First, I had to use the Host file on the server to point to the new DNS, thus allowing me to browse the site on the server web browser. Then I logged in and added the new Portal Alias to match the new DNS.  That really was the key. Thanks BarryS !!

I also had some firewall issues at the new location, and I had to change a setting in the IIS application manager for the new Host header name.
