I am coming from a PHP/Postnuke/Dragonfly environment so I am having a little trouble wrapping my brain around this platform still. I have a clean install of DNN 4.3.7 (SQL2005 backend) and I would like to enable the forums on my site. Could someone please provide me some direction on the proper way to do so? I could do it as the host or admin as currently there is only one portal running DNN so I just need it to work.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

The Core Forums module is part of the install distro, so if you didnt remove it before hand, you should be able to put a forum module on a page. Please check the specific forums forum on this site if you have questions about configuring and using the forums module

While Active Forums is definitely your top of the line choice for forums at your site, there are other choices. As mentioned above, you can use the Forums module available here at DNN.

There is also a nice, freely available forums module from Presstopia.com

You can see Active Forums in working function at my site, but it costs $60 from the maker.

Thanks,
Travis

Ha, funny enough the word "active" in my subject line was a typo. It should ahve been "Activate Forums" as in how the heck do you activate the forums that are packaged with DNN by default. I had no idea there was an 3rd party software called active forums.

If someone could give me the proper steps to activate the forums that are standard with DNN that would be much appreciated. Someone mentioned about "adding them to a page" however I am rather unfamiliar with this CMS so a little explanation would be great!

Thanks everyone for your help so far!

You will find the Presstopia forums much easier to work with compared to the core forums module available here. But with either choice, you need to log in as host (use login name: host) and make your way to the Host --> Module Definitions menu selection. You need to click on 'Upload New Module' and go through the dialogue and upload the module .zip file.

For example, the filename is PTForum.01.02.00.zip . And you can download it free here:
http://www.presstopia.com/dnn/Default.aspx?tabid=159

If successful, you will see a message at the bottom of the screen indicating so.

Then make your way to the Admin --> Pages menu, add a new page, and on this new page use the top-bar control menu to add a module (select PTForums) onto the Content Pane of that page.

That's it. It'll be up and running.

Thanks,
Travis
