I just ran across DNN about 30 minutes ago while looking at ASP.net to determine how realistic a project would be.  I am now trying to determine if it would be quicker to learn DNN and compose this site, or just stick with VB.net (which I already know) and build it from scratch.

I need to create a web page that would allow a user to do only two things:

1 - bring up a list (one line per item) of entries from a database that match criteria selected by the user.  The criteria would be chosen from two seperate drop-down list boxes.  Once the user finds an item from the list, they would need to click on it to further examine the details of the item.

2 - add items to the list to be searched by other users.  (users should also be able to edit/delete items they have added, but not items added by others)

Any Advice would be GREATLY appreciated, and if you have any suggestions for a module that would allow me to do this, that would also be very helpful.

Thank you for your time.

XDJ,

Nothing in your requirements really sounds DNN related.  What you seem to be describing  could be accomlished in a single webform.  DNN is a framework to provide far more functionality - the question to ask is would you make use of any of the basic (or advanced) DNN capabilities?  To accomplish what you describe DNN would seem on the surface to be over kill - but then you do not give much context outside of this single web page/form you describe.

Hello XDJ

You might take a look at the SQLGridSelected  module it works well with DNN.:

Documentation - a 40+ PDF is viewable here - http://www.tressleworks.ca/Modules/SQLGridSelectedView/tabid/82/Default.aspx
