DotNetNuke 4.0.3, Forum Module 3.20.06

An error has occurred.
Error: User Settings is currently unavailable.

All users (except Admin/Host) see this error when clicking Forum Moudule My Settings. One change made just yesterday was Email Notification was turned ON for the first time, and one or more users subscribed to one or more forums.

I have attached/reattached the MSSQL Server Express database, reset ACL permissions on the DotNetNuke installation folder, turned OFF email notification, rebooted the server: still the error persists. Any suggestions for resolution? Thank you.

It turns out that the only users getting this error (when attempting to enter Forum Module My Settings) are the few users who yesterday enabled email notification for one/more forums. Any ideas on how to resolve this error for those users?

The error shows up w/ email notifications in a couple scenarios. The ones I remember are: person attempted to subscribe to one they were already subscribed to. (This shows an FK Constraint db error in the logs, it happens because there was a bug that showed subscribed forums in the treeview 2x for each subscribed within a group) The other is if you are using this on multiple portals or multiple modules per portal, I have since been focusing very hard on these to make sure the module is much more multi-portal and multi instance per portal friendly.

Multiple portals (on the same installation). That's my scenario and that's probably why I'm getting this error.

I had been thinking that it's time for me to upgrade this DotNetNuke 4.0.3 to 4.3.7 (w/ Forum Module 3.20.08), so I did that upgrade. The error above is gone!, but a new error arose:

A critical error has occurred.
ORDER BY items must appear in the select list if SELECT DISTINCT is specified. 0

...when any forum user (including Admin) clicks Forum Module My Posts, the message above displays.

Any suggestions for taking care of this error? Thank you, Crispy...

... and then I remembered I had been down this road before:

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/mid/2108/threadid/50943/scope/posts/Default.aspx#57721

In the above thread, my post dated 7/30/2006 4:50:18 PM has one variation of a workaround that works to rid the My Post Forum Module error:

A critical error has occurred.
ORDER BY items must appear in the select list if SELECT DISTINCT is specified. 0

... that arises after upgrading from 4.0.3 to 4.3.7 revision.
