I don't mean sound like Tam hasn't done a great job with the module to get it this far, but...I would volunteer, but it's been many years now since I taught C++, and I'd have to start from the beginning on programming for .Net.  So, I'll just volunteer for design input and product testing.

Don't worry Dan... didn't take it that way, I know that Tam does not either.  He's a pretty amazing guy who has done some pretty amazing things in his spare time and made generous contribution of them.  But we all go through seasons of availability and his has become more limited.

I would encourage you (and EVERYONE) do one thing for us, though... help us find someone!  Very few of us use the AD integration in our normal day-to-day experience and so there is an area of exposure due to insufficient regression testing.  Obviously, we need a more reliable means to ensure this and would appreciate a collaborative response from our biggest users in this area.  For example, perhaps you would not be able to code it... but if you would be able to coordinate test cases and regression on new versions... that would be of assistance.  We can be creative here... we just need for the right stakeholders to be involed.

We're listening.

I'll do what I can, and I think there are at least two others that have been active in the forums that might be able to help also...

Just tell me how to get started!

Scott,

I realize it is hard to find people to test because it requires an uncommon skillset of being a developer and being intimately familiar with Active Diretory.  I use the feature but lack the AD experience to help debug and really dive in.

The hard part is having a test lab that has AD configured and can be tested against. Most Sys Admins dont take kindly to running tests against the production AD.  However I do have a suggestion that might help, lets use a virtual server (VM Ware or MS Virtual Server) and make it publicly avaliable to download.  It would have IIS and a AD preinstalled. The major issue I see with this is the licensin of the Windows OS. Would a 120 day eval key work? Howerver this would require a rebuild every 120 days. Any better ideas out there lets have them.

Again I would like to nominate slhilbert but he hasn't commented on this topic yet and dont want to speak for him.

PS  Also as the creator of this topic I think some good discussion has come out of it. Kudos to the DNN community for not turning this into a flame war but a productive discussion.

I can do some thorough testing here if needed, I'll just have to setup a second webserver to do the testing with (probably a virtual server).

DNN doesn't "do" anything to AD, it merely authenticates against it, so it more a matter of using a test website instead of a production website.

Hey Scott

I sent an email a little over a week ago to the projects@dotnetnuke.com offering to be part of the team (not as team lead but as a team member) and didn't hear anything back. I'm not sure if it got lost as SPAM somewhere or not so if you need me to send it again just let me know.
