I've read cathal connolly's article: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/BlogsDotNetNuke/tabid/825/EntryID/472/Default.aspx

But I still understand these three options:Private, Public, Server and Private. Under what situations we should use the three options above.

The configuration path: Host->Host Settings->Advanced Settings->Other Settings->Authenticated Cacheability

Cheers!

These posts may help:

This one shows how to set it in a skin, so that you can control it at the page level, DotNetNuke only allows you to set it at the Host Level
Changing HttpCacheability to Speed up your DotNetNuke Site

Caching in DotNetNuke

Bottom line is, unless you have a specific requirement to keep the user's browser from caching pages in your portal (like in a banking environment) you are safe to set it to "Public".

Even setting it to Private, or ServerAndNoCache is only a suggestion to the browser, or any proxy between your server and the browser.  Although most of them will adhere to this directive, there is no way to force them not to cache your pages.

Dear John,

I am not sure this is a caching problem. It is more like a redirect. When I click login from http://localhost...I am taken to http://localhost/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx, yet the page is still the home page. Please HELP!

I tried putting Page.Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Public) in the default.aspx Page_load event, but the problem persists.

Thanks,

Christine

Hi Christine,

Sorry, I don't have an explanation for why it is doing that, unless you have set your Login Page to be your home page, but you don't have a login module on that page, in that case you can try the following blog post:

Can't Login to your DotNetNuke Portal?
