Hi,

Initially the website I installed (V4.3.6) on port number didn't work. When I added UsePortNumber key in config file the website in local network started to work. but I can not see it externally and I get "Cannot display web page" error message.

DotNetNuke 4.3.6 works with using PotNumber on the local netwrok like http://10.0.0.20:8066/DotNetNuke

but it doesn't work when I use external domain name looking at the same server. like http://www.mydomain.com:8066/DotNetNuke

We do have other websites which we have access externally without any problem.

I have tried to put the domain name into PortalAlias with all different type of combination without any luck

If it works internally, but not externally you may say it is most likely a problem with a firewall, dns, or IIS settings.

but It's not the firewall. We do have firewall but the port number is opened.  I have below two links, one of them work, DotnetNuke doesn't?

http://test.dotnetweb.co.uk:8052/EspAdmin  This one works

http://test.dotnetweb.co.uk:8055/DotNetNuke  Doesn't work

Baring in mind that I can go to errorPage.aspx by http://test.dotnetweb.co.uk:8055/DotnetNuke/ErrorPage.aspx

But the Default.aspx doesn't work. but I can go to Default.aspx by local IP address on the same server.

I actually installed it in a differnet server which the port 80 is open for host header and I put the domain name into host header value like below, and still the external link doesn't work

My local address is http://10.0.0.151:7065/DotNetWeb  which works perfect. My external address is http://www.dotnetweb.co.uk/DotNetWeb which daesn't work. But I can go to http://www.dotnetweb.co.uk/DotNetWeb/ErrorPage.aspx  or bring an image from web like http://www.dotnetweb.co.uk/DotNetWeb/images/action.gif

Here is my records in PortalAlias table

PortalAliasID, PortalID, HTTPAlias

 1, 0, 10.0.0.151:7065
 2, 0, http://www.hdotnetweb.co.uk/dotnetweb

Do I need to do anything on Default.aspx. I haven't touch it so far and it's still the one came from install zip file.

Please help on this and your help will be highly appreciated.

Many thanks

Ben

Hi, try changing your PortalAlias to this:

dotnetweb.co.uk/DotNetWeb

You don’t want to include the http:// portion of the Url, and www is automatically checked for so you don’t need it.

When I go to that Url it is redirecting me to your internal IP (the first alias) because that one is not in the list.
If your website in IIS is not listening on Port 80 then you won’t be able to use a default Url like:

Is this a server on the inside with IIS, or is it a personal machine with some other webserver like casini?

If you have IIS, then you should create a “New Website” instead of a “New Virtual Folder” to make this easier.

One other thing to keep in mind is that DotNetNuke cannot map an external IP address to an Internal IP address (known as NAT), your router will have to do that.
