Hi

I've been looking at the security provider, and it seems to go to the database every time something want to know anything about user roles. This looks like an area where a quick win can be made caching this information.

So before i put some effort into writting a caching class I thought I'd just check that Im not missing something basic (i'm new to DNN so theses a good chance i've missed something)

Thanks Simon

the next release of DNN (4.4.0) will focus on performance, first beta is scheduled to be released to platinum benefactors early next week. Unless you have indepth knowledge about security issues with caching security data, i would steer clear from that area if i were you (are you planning a core mod btw... not a good idea if you are planning to upgrade later on). DNN 4.4.0 will be a lot faster than dnn 4.3.7, it contains many optimizations in sprocs, caching, more efficient calls etc etc

Hi

I was looking to sub class or agrigate the DNNRoleProvider, and provide a caching layer over the top of it. The tests I ran show this can be done without a core change (just pointing the config file 'role' entry at the new provider). But if this work is already being undertaken, then theres no point in re-inventing the wheel.

I'll keep an eye on the latest releases.

While I was poking about in this area I also noticed an issue with the GetUserRoles (see my previous post), if this is a bug, then can this change be rolled into the new version?

Thanks Simon

Erik - and Simon

I dont think caching security data or roles is a good idea - I have had portals where users change roles a lot and I wouldnt want to think they could do something after I had changed that user out of a role.
